
Helen Hyun is a 20-year-old violinist who was born in New York and began playing the violin at the age of 5. At the age of 7, she joined the Arts Academy of Gifted Children at the Seoul Arts Center and, at 11, she studied under Prof. Nam-yun Kim at the Korea National University Institute for the Gifted in Arts. After graduating as valedictorian from Yewon School in 2021, she was accepted to Seoul National University to study under Prof. Young-uck Kim and Chang ho Lim.
Helen made her solo debut with the Chungnam Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 10 and has collaborated with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chungju Philharmonic Orchestra. She began her violin recital career at the Kumho Prodigy Concert and Kumho Young Artist Concert. Has held solo concerts at the Elim Arts Center and Shinhan Arts Hall, Herman Arts Hall and The House Concert, 24 Hours Concert and July Festival. She has won first place in several domestic music competitions, including the 13th Shinhan Music Awards, the 1st Dong-A Junior Music Concours, and the TBC Music Concours. She has also been invited to perform by various organizations such as the Heart Foundation, Song Kang Foundation, Korean Mecenat Association, and the National Academy of Arts, Republic of Korea.
From 2022, she is playing as concertmaster and soloist with the Seoul National University Chamber Ensemble and the Seoul National University Philharmonic Orchestra. She also leads her self-founded Yewon Soloists Chamber Ensemble, which performs annually and has won first place at the Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition. Helen has made several television appearances, including on the JTBC Classical Music Program, where she performed contemporary pieces by the winner of the Geneva competition, Jae-hyuk Choi. She participated the Pyeongchang International Music Festival and Tongyeong International Music Foundation Academy as a scholarship student and performed.
Helen has participated in several international competitions including the Menuhin Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, the Spohr Competition in Germany, and the Singapore Festival, Shlomo Mintz Competition, Valsesia Musica Competition. She has been invited to perform at various international music festivals, such as Crans-Montana Classics in Switzerland, Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China, Nagano International Music Festival in Japan, and the Singapore Music Festival. And participated in masterclasses with Leonidas Kavakos, Shlomo Mintz, Christoph Poppen, Daniel Philips, Koichiro Harada, Svetlin Roussev, Pavel Vernikov, and Felix Ayo.
