Eighteen-year-old cellist Daniel Yim, a senior at Bellarmine College Preparatory, lives in San Jose, CA, where he studies with Kyeong-hwa Kim. The first prize winner of the 2023 OPUS National Music Competition, the Grand Prize winner of the ENKOR International Music Competition, and the recipient of awards from the National YoungArts Foundation, the Burlingame Music Club, and the Pacific Musical Society & Foundation, he has been a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra since 2018 and has served as its principal cellist since 2021. Since then, he has also appeared with the 2022 Junior Bach Festival, NYO2 2022 (as its principal cellist) and NYO-USA 2023. 

With the SFSYO and NYO-USA, he has appeared in venues including Carnegie Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, Musikverein, and others, performing with Hilary Hahn, Gil Shaham, Nicola Benedetti, and others. 

Aside from music, Daniel enjoys hiking and creative writing.
